Despite living in an urban (or suburban) setting for nearly ten years, I love the outdoors: camping, backpacking, climbing, canoing, and just generally being outside.

I am a graduate student, hoping to graduate in the next year with my PhD in chemistry. This is really only important because grad school consumes so much of my life. I'm excited to be joining this site because I was told it is really a great way to meet some really nice women! I was born in Phoenix Arizona, but grew up in North Carolina. I'm the youngest of five kids. I don't have any kids myself, but hopefully they are in my future ;).
I'm a very honest and caring person. It's hard for me to turn my back on people in need! Every two weeks I donate plasma at the Blood center. Over the past five years, I have morphed from being a very outgoing person to sort of a home body. Though I still love to be outside in the heat, I also enjoy just sitting at home watching movies (Burned movies-- HAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA).
I moved to state college PA, in January for a job at Penn State. I'll get more into that when I talk about what I"m doing with my life :).
I love to laugh and have good time with friends. I'm a huge board gamer. Catan is probably one of my favorite games of all time. I also like Wise and other wise, scattergories, cranium, carcassone, and show or movie based trivia games :). I'm up for anything else too... such as card games like UNO. Over time, I've become less and less of a video game player unless I'm hanging with my guy friends and we are playing some shoot them up games! I currently own a Wii, PS2, N64, and Turbo grafx 16 :).

After graduating from Penn State, couldn't bring myself to leave. I have a good local job and a place of my own. I hang out with my tight knit group of friends, which is good because there's always something going on. However, the downside of that is that I meet few new people, including that special someone. I'm a nice guy who is who would like to meet a nice girl to spend time with and make laugh. I enjoy cooking for friends, bad movies, and going out downtown. I'm fairly easygoing, and can laugh and joke about anything.

I've traveled abroad quite a bit and plan on seeing Eastern Europe and Scandinavia next big trip. My weekends are usually spent with friends tailgating, cooking out, watching movies, or doing something outside to fit the season.

In college and making the best of it. And by that, I mean it's fucking awesome. Since renting an apartment, things have progressively gotten even better (man, dorms suck). Looking for a history degree, and a minor in political science if I ever stop being lazy (not likely). Politically, I'm a liberal. Kinda very liberal. Progressive taxes are pretty awesome (why not give back to the system that allowed you such status in the first place?), and I think civil and political rights should be held in the highest regard. Religiously, I'm an atheist, and I generally support the sciences very strongly. I believe there to be at least enough evidence to controvert the (in my mind) flawed "theory" of Creationism. People who equate pro-choice with pro-abortion bother me. Don't get me wrong though, religion is fine in its own right. It's just usually, in my opinion, corrupted by the crazy fundamentalists and the man-made institutions. One should not have to go to Mass to confirm his own faith. I am also awesome, but I fear not as much as beards.

Also, I'd like to meet the guy who started pop music...so that I could castrate him, for he is assuredly an asshole seeking to cash-in on talentless hicks. Then I would meet the guy from that web site Maddox, and punch him in the face, cause he's such a jackass (who makes me laugh, mind you). What else should I mention so I that I don't weird you out later? Uh, I tend to eschew "modern" medical practice, in favour of a post-modern holistic approach. I embrace the path of the shamanic warrior of the Inner Realms--gosh that sounds a bit silly, doesn't it? I'm almost always up late and sometimes pass the time listening to radio shows like Art Bell, but mostly just info-glutting online. My favourite visual diversions are the obtusely surreal and macabre works of artists like David Lynch, Rod Serling & animator/musician David Firth. On the rare occasion you catch me watching tv, it'll either be something sci-fi (esp. DOCTOR WHO and TORCHWOOD) or Food Network). Food geeks like Alton Brown are also pretty hot in my book)!

About me, I am working in a lab as a postdoctoral researcher in Plant genetics and am usually doing experiments and often writing grant proposals. I study gene regulation using the pigmentation of Indian Corn as a model system. I have a few close friends and other nice friends too and have met most of them though my work and will often go to lunch or have coffee with them. I also enjoy playing board games, and going to movies or ice skating with my friends. I also like all kinds of food and don't mind cooking. I know how to make a few good dishes and want to learn new recipes as my rotation of food could use a little spicing up. I enjoy sports, but am not a jock at all, that is I play them only for recreation when I get the chance. I like hiking through the woods and exploration. I like to travel too and have been to some cool places.... I played water polo in High school and loved it even though I am not that fast at swimming. I am a Basketball fan, and played in the Michigan State Pep band as an undergrad so that I could get into the games for free. I like many kids of music, I like classic rock, Seattle grunge, and typically like songs that feature instruments other then guitar and drums, such as Dave Mathews, Blues Traveler Jameroquai, or Ben Folds Five. Right now I have been enjoying a band called Jukebox the Ghost. I also like Folk and Bluegrass and some classical music.
I enjoy reading and like science fiction, humor, and biographies. I have recently spent some time editing a biography my mom wrote that should be coming out soon. I enjoy telling stories to my Children and have started writing some of them down and maybe one day I can try to publish them.

I enjoy photography and the outdoors. I am a photographer for a local newspaper. I also love to ski, travel, hike, camp and bike. I am fairly morally conservative and would be looking for someone similar. I consider myself very reliable, adventurous, loyal and creative.

I have lived in State College for about 3 years now. I am originally from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton area of PA. To say I prefer it out here would be an understatement. While the valley was fun, Happy Valleyis much better.

I sing in the car. I will read anything you put in front of me. My goal in life is to be a college professor and a crazy cat lady. (I have three cats right now: Loki, Thor, and Valkyrie, aka Lokium, Thorazine and Valdol.) I am a scientist and a girl geek and an INFP. I can't sit still. I am an unabashed liberal. I insist upon the use of the Oxford comma. I love the outdoors and adore hiking and camping. I love swing dance. I play the clarinet, and want to learn the violin. I'm chaotic-good. I'm a total cuddleslut.

I'm also quite introverted. Just shy, not antisocial. ;)

I just realized that in the "My Details" section, it gives an Education option for "graduated from Space Camp." I'd just like to point out that I did indeed graduate from Space Camp, and went back to teach for two years. Yaay, claim to fame!

I'm just on here looking to meet new people for just friends, maybe something more. I work a full time job during the day and the rest of the time I'm either playing WoW, reading a book, listening to music, etc. Lately I've been reading Watchmen, thought the movie looked interesting so I decided to pick up the book. I actually really like it and will probably be reading it when I get off here! My WoW kick has been waning, but I started playing last July-ish. Those of you who have never played really should try it out! Other than that I just try to keep warm, it's freakin cold here!!!

Ok, update: It's not cold here now, been a while since I edited this. Watchmen - the book was better than the movie (isn't that always how it goes?) And I'm slowly getting back into WoW. I took a break to enjoy summer!

I'm addicted to xkcd and Something Positive.

I don't use lines. I don't play games. I've got a good heart and I'm not afraid of commitment, and I actually care about the person I'm dating or in a relationship with, unlike most guys who just want to get to the next lay.

Adventurous. I want to live the shit out of life! I'm a big fan of nerds who wear bullet-proof glasses and perhaps the occasional pocket-protector(?). I really love life and want to wrench all of the awesome experiences I possibly can from it.
Love hiking, bike riding (just got a recumbent trike), and playing with things whose appeal lies normally in the 5 year old's domain.
Inquisitive by nature, I love learning new concepts and debating political or philosophical points - ad nauseum. As often told, I have a bit of a corny sense of humor (but starch is good for you, right?). Precisely.
Photography has been my most recent hobby, and I'm currently pretty enamored with time lapse video and similar technical photography. I like art, but am more entertained by the question "Why do I like art?"
My favorite TV shows (actually Hulu) are The Office, 30 Rock, and the SNL digital shorts (I'm On a Boat!). I'm not a huge fan of horror movies or sad dramas, but do like the depth of movies that raise serious questions - unlike one of my favorites "Old School".
I play the cello, and play along with Yo Yo Ma on my stereo to convince myself that I'm a world class cellist. I dabble in the piano and drums and also play a little bass guitar. I love to jam out with anyone willing. Awesome: Dave Matthews Band, Beck, Radiohead, John Mayer, Keane, and Beck. Not Awesome: Kelly Clarkson.
Summed up, I love to have fun, explore new things, discuss substantive ideas, and observe how we change and adapt with each experience.
